Barbican
Thu, 10th Oct 2013

This Christmas the Barbican’s programme features the Royal Shakespeare Company’s production of Richard II starring David Tennant in the theatre, Handel’s Messiah, Britten's Saint Nicolas, and Berlioz’s L'enfance du Christ in the Barbican Hall, a film screening of the magical Bolshoi Ballet Encore: Sleeping Beauty, and Pop Art Design continues in the Barbican Art Gallery accompanied by a series of events.

There is something on offer for all the family including performances which combine acclaimed animations on big screens with a live orchestra: The Gruffalo and The Gruffalo's Child are accompanied by the Royal Northern Sinfonia led by Terry Davies, and in Wallace and Gromit’s Musical Marvels, conductor Nicholas Collon leads the Aurora Orchestra and communicates with the animated duo in an interactive performance. Both events offer a way for young children to experience the thrill of an orchestra for the first time.

Told by an Idiot present the artfully controlled chaos of Get Happy, a madcap, mischievous show featuring performance, dance, music and visual comedy, and the fun continues with the Framed Film Club’s festive-themed workshop and Christmas party.

Perfect for Christmas gift hunting, the Barbican has a number of alternative shopping experiences to choose from with the Barbican Design Market, Pop-Up Toy Shop, Pop Art Design Shop, and the Barbican Shop. All offer an eclectic mix of new, innovative and affordable contemporary gift ideas, showcasing the very best of established and emerging UK based design talent.
